Feb. 28, 2025 — When a health center was proposed for downtown Brockton 34 years ago, political opposition was so heated that most thought it would never happen, especially in downtown. But a small but determined group knew — Brockton was a sick city and needed help. And it needed Sue Joss.
Not only did it have some of the worst health rankings in the state, including an infant mortality rate more than twice that of Massachusetts, it didn’t have one critical resource – a community health center. But the group also needed someone to lead the effort and build what would ultimately be called Brockton Neighborhood Health Center. They chose Sue Joss, and the rest is healthcare history.
